140W USB-PD3.1 fast charging solution based on ST ST-ONEHP

ST-ONEHP is the third controller in the ST-ONE series. The converter adopts ACF architecture to ensure excellent energy efficiency at high power output and high frequency. The chip spans the primary & secondary, and the secondary side integrates synchronous rectification and USB PD functions to save material cost and PCB area.

The built-in Arm® Cortex®-M0+ MCU of ST-ONEHP is responsible for overall control. The MCU is pre-installed with certified USB PD software, further simplifying the application process for the final product to obtain USB logo qualification. The MCU is equipped with 64KB Flash to store customized power conversion code.

ST-ONEHP is very suitable for use with MasterGaN. The MasterGaN package is only 9mm x 9mm, with two built-in GaN MOS+ high-voltage drivers. Compared with traditional Si MOS, it has superior thermal performance and switching efficiency. MasterGaN can complement the advantages of ST-ONE converters and help maximize performance and switching frequency.

ST has developed a SEVLONE140W charger reference design with a power density of 25W/in3 and a peak efficiency of over 94%. The PCB size is 55mm*85mm*23.5mm.

The simplified block diagram of ST-ONEHP control is as follows. It can be seen that the IC spans the primary and secondary, has good peripheral components, high integration, and built-in multiple protections.
